Solution

  • Red muscle is the thin muscles with abundant myoglobin pigment, mitochondria. They show slow and sustained contractions for a prolonged time without fatigue.
  • They depend on aerobic metabolism for energy. No accumulation of lactic acid takes place. Examples: Extensor back muscles.
  • White muscles are the thick muscles with less myoglobin and mitochondria. They show fast contractions but fatigue soon.
  • They depend on anaerobic metabolism for energy and leads to the accumulation of lactic acid. Example: Muscles of eyelids.
