Open in App
Solution

Growth-dependent movements in plants:

These are directional movements of plants caused due to the presence of a specific stimulus.

Growth independent movements in plants: These are directionless movements of plants caused due to variations in the outside environment.

Differences between growth-dependent movements and growth-independent movements in plants:

Growth dependent movements in plants Growth independent movements in plants
1. Growth-dependent movements result in the growth of plants 1. Growth independent movements do not result in the growth of plants.
2. Growth-dependent movements are also called tropic movements 2. Growth independent movements are also called nastic movements
3. Growth-dependent movements are in response to light, water, chemical stimuli, gravity, etc 3. Growth independent movements are in response to touch or for capturing prey or liberating the seeds.
Example: Growth of roots of plants towards the gravity i.e. downwards. Example: The folding or drooping of leaves of ‘touch-me-not’ plants.
