Antiseptics and disinfectants both are antimicrobials.

Disinfectants are substances used to kill microbe on non living surfaces.

Antiseptics are substances used to kill microbes on living surfaces such as skin.

Difference:

AntisepticsDisinfectants
  1. Antiseptics prevent or destroy development or inhibit the pathogenic action of microbes.
1. Disinfectants also kill microorganisms but are not safe to be applied to living tissues.
2. They are safe to be applied on living tissues.2. They are generally applied to non-living objects such as drains, toilets, floors and living rooms infected with bacteria and disease carrying germs.
