Question

Write the different oxidation states of manganese. Why +2 oxidation state of manganese is more stable?

Open in App
Solution

The different oxidation states of manganese (Mn) are +2, +3, +4, +5, +6 and +7. Manganese with 3d5,4s2 as the outer electronic configuration, shows oxidation states ranging from +2(3d5) to +7(3d0). The +2 oxidation state is very stable due to exactly half-filled 3d-orbital of higher stability.
