Question

Write the different oxoacids of chlorine in the increasing order of their oxidising power.

Open in App
Solution

The oxoacids of chlorine are HClO,HClO2,HClO3,HClO4. The increasing order of their oxidizing power is :
HClO4<HClO3<HClO2<HClO
This is because the oxidizing power is inversely proportional to the thermal stability of acids for oxacids of chlorine. Here, the thermal stability of oxyacids is HClO4>HClO3>HClO2>HClO.
