Question

Write the equation 3x1=2y3=1z4 in the vector form.

Open in App
Solution

Consider the equation

3x1=2y3=1z4

(x3)1=(y2)3=(z1)4(x3)1=(y2)3=(z1)4

x31=y23=z14

Comparing the equation with

xx1a=yy1b=zzc

we get,

a=1,b=3c=4

x1=3,y1=2,z1=1

Here,

b=^i+3^j+4^ka=3^i+2^j+^k

So, vector equation of the line is

r=a+λb

=(3^i+2^j+^k)+λ(^i+3^j+4^k)
