Question

Write the equation for the laboratory preparation of the following salt using sulphuric acid: Iron (II) sulphate using Fe.

Open in App
Solution

  1. When Iron (Fe) reacts with dilute sulphuric acid, H2SO4, the salt Iron (II) sulphate (FeSO4) is produced with the release of Hydrogen gas.
  2. It is a type of displacement reaction as iron (Fe) displaces hydrogen (H) from H2SO4. It shows that Fe is a reactive metal.
  3. The chemical equation :

Fe(s)+H2SO4(aq)FeSO4(aq)+H2(g)
