Write the equation of a line in which every point has an abscissa which is twice the ordinate. Rewrite this in the form ax + by + c = 0 and indicate the values of a, b and c. [4 MARKS]

Rewritten equation : 1 Mark
Rearranged equation : 1 Mark
variables : 1 Mark

Since the X coordinate is twice the Y coordinate for every point on the line, we can say that the equation required is x = 2y

Rewriting, we get

x – 2y + 0 = 0

Comparing this to the standard form ax + by + c = 0, we see that

a = 1

b = -2

c = 0
