Following are the factors affecting climate
a. Latitude: The Tropic of Cancer divides Indian landmass into two halves. So, half of India has tropical climate and half has subtropical climate.
b. Altitude: The average elevation in the coastal regions is above 30 metres and the average elevation in the north is above 6,000 metres. Hence coastal regions are warmer and north is cooler.
c. Pressure and wind system : It determines the amount of rainfall a region receives. The western cyclonic disturbances affect the climate of north western India. Moreover, the Jet streams that get attracted by the low pressure formed in summers in India open the way for the entry of western cyclonic disturbance.
d. Distance from sea: The sea has a moderate influence over the regions surrounding it. The climate is not extreme. But as the distance from the sea increases the variation in climate occurs which is mainly extreme.
e. Ocean currents: It affects the climate of coastal regions. The coastal regions are warm or cool depends on the flow of ocean currents over it.
