In the Roman Numerals system, there are seven basic symbols to write any numeral. The symbols are given below:

With the help of the above table, we can write the value in Hindu Arabic Numerals as:

MCDXLIV=1000+500-100+50-10+4

  • A smaller numeral appearing to the left of a larger numeral is always subtracted from the larger numeral, So, XL=50-10=40 and CD=500-100

MCDXLIV=1000+400+40+4

=1444

Therefore, the answer is 1444
