a) 17 exceeds a number by 8 .
b) the sum of two consecutive odd numbers is 24 .

Let number is equal to x
so we will get
17-x =8
x = 17- 8
x = 9
So 17 exceeds a number 9 by 8

b.
Let first odd number is x
than x+1 will be even number and x+2 will be the next odd number
so we will get
x+x+2 = 24
2x+2 =24
2x =22
x = 11
so 11 and 13 are consecutive odd number whose sum is 24
