When Sodium $\left(\mathrm{Na}\right)$ is added to Ethanol $\left({\mathrm{C}}_2{\mathrm{H}}_5\mathrm{OH}\right)$ then chemical reaction takes place and $\mathrm{H}$ atom of $-\mathrm{OH}$ group is replaced by $\mathrm{Na}$ atom and it produces Sodium ethoxide $\left({\mathrm{C}}_2{\mathrm{H}}_5\mathrm{ONa}\right)$ and Hydrogen $\left({\mathrm{H}}_2\right)$ gas
