Question

Write the formula for de Broglie wavelength. An electron is moving with speed of 0.5×103m/s. Find the de Broglie wavelength associated with it.

Open in App
Solution

Mass of electron=me=9.11×1031Kg

speed of electron=Ve=0.5×103m/s

Planck constant=h=6.626×1034m2Kg/s

De Broglie wavelength associated with electron =λ

Momentum of the electron is given by,

Momentum of the electron=P=meVe=hλ

putting the values we get,

P=9.11×1031×0.5×103=6.626×1034λ

λ=6.626×10349.11×1031×0.5×103

λ=1.46×106m= De Broglie wavelength
