Solution

A) Formula for the coordination compound

I. When we write the formulas of the coordination complex by the help of IUPAC name, first we write the chemical symbol of the central metal atom or ion then the ligands.

II. We write the negative ligand first with the metal then neutral ligand in alphabetical order.

III. Some ligands possess charges, and some are neutral. The charge may be positive or negative. One needs to balance the charges in formula in order to get the accurate oxidation state of metal.

IV. Formula of complex is written in square brackets. The cation is named first in both positively and negatively charged coordination entities.

V. Prefixes mono, di, tri, etc., are used to indicate the number of the individual ligands in the coordination entity.

Hence, the formula of the given IUPAC name can be written as:

Tetraamminediaquacobalt(III)chloride

[CO(NH3)4(H2O)2]Cl3

B) Formula for the coordination compound

V. In some complexes, the metal atom is written before the complete name. In that case, the metal is bonded to rest with ionic bonds. For example - in Potassium tetracyanidonickelate (II). Here, the potassium is not part of the metal complex. So, it could not be written in square brackets.

VI. Prefixes mono, di, tri, etc., are used to indicate the number of the individual ligands in the coordination entity.

Hence, the formula of the given IUPAC name can be written as:

Potassiumtetracyanidonickelate(II)

K2[Ni(CN)4]

C) Formula for the coordination compound

V. Prefixes mono, di,tri, etc., are used to indicate the number of the individual ligands in the coordination entity. When the names of the ligands include a numerical prefix, then the terms, bis, tris, tetrakis are used, the ligand to which they refer being placed in parentheses. Hence, the formula of the given IUPAC name can be written as:

Tris(ethane1,2diamine)chromium(III)chloride

[Cr(en)3]Cl3

D) Formula for the coordination compound

I. When we write the formulas of the coordination complex by the help of IUPAC name, first we write the chemical symbol of the central metal atom or ion then the ligands.

II. We write the negative ligand first with the metal then neutral ligand in alphabetical order.

V. Prefixes mono, di, tri, etc., are used to indicate the number of the individual ligands in the coordination entity. Hence, the formula of the given IUPAC name can be written as:

AmminebromidochloridonitritoNplatinate(II)

[PtBrCl(NO2)(NH3)]
