Write the four causes of noise pollution and explain the control of noise pollution.

Pollution caused by loud, unpleasant or intolerable sound is called noise pollution.

The causes of noise pollution are-
(i) Source of the noise may be natural such as thunder of clouds. It can be man-made noise such as an aeroplane, loudspeakers etc.
(ii) Among the various industrial units the maximum level of noise in found in ceramics and foundries.
(iii) Domestic noise: Television, radio, music system, etc. create noise pollution.
(iv) Traffic sound: Automobiles such as aeroplanes, trains, cars, scooter bikes, trucks, etc. are the main noise producing vehicles.

Control of noise pollution-

(i) Industries should be setup away from human settlements and machines should be maintained in good conditions.
(ii) Horns of automobiles should be devised to produce moderate sound.
(iii) Unnecessary use of loudspeakers should be banned.
(iv) Greenbelts absorb sound hence trees should be planted.
