Dear student,
Here is your answer.
Function of ADA (adenosine aminohydrolase) enzyme:
ADA enzyme is a prime component in the metabolism of purines. In human body, ADA enzyme is known to be associated with development and maintenance of the immune system, epithelial cell differentiation, neurotransmission, and gestation maintenance.
Cause of ADA deficiency:
ADA deficiency primarily occurs due to some mutations in the gene for adenosine deaminase which cause it not to be expressed. It results in SCID (severe combined immunodeficiency) and often pulmonary fibrosis.
Possible permanent cure for ADA patient:
2 types of treatment is possible in case of ADA deficiency.
1. Bone marrow transplant: It replaces defective immune cells with healthy immune cells from a donor.
2. Enzyme replacement therapy: It replaces the missing ADA enzyme and allows the immune system to function properly.
Regards.
