Coronary artery:
- There are two branches of the coronary artery that arises from the aorta.
- The right coronary artery supplies the right side of the heart while the left coronary artery supplies the left side.
- The right and the left coronary arteries divide into a number of branches that surround the heart and provide oxygen-rich blood for the functioning of the heart.
Function:
The coronary arteries are part of the coronary circulation which is the vascular system that supplies the heart with oxygen-rich blood.
Hence the function of the coronary artery is to supply oxygenated blood to the heart.
