(i) Coronary artery

Coronary artery:

  1. There are two branches of the coronary artery that arises from the aorta.
  2. The right coronary artery supplies the right side of the heart while the left coronary artery supplies the left side.
  3. The right and the left coronary arteries divide into a number of branches that surround the heart and provide oxygen-rich blood for the functioning of the heart.

Function:

The coronary arteries are part of the coronary circulation which is the vascular system that supplies the heart with oxygen-rich blood.

Hence the function of the coronary artery is to supply oxygenated blood to the heart.
