Neurons

The neurons are the cell of the nervous system. They help in the transmission and conduction of nerve impulses. Based on the function performed, neurons are divided into three types: Sensory neurons, Motor neurons, and Mixed neurons.

The function of sensory neuron

• A sensory neuron, also known as an afferent neuron, helps in the transmission of impulses from the sensory organs to the organs of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord).

The function of motor neuron

• A motor neuron, also known as an efferent neuron, helps in the transmission of impulses from the central nervous system organs (brain and spinal cord) to effector organs (muscles & glands).
