Functions of vacuoles:

The important functions of vacuoles are:

i) Storage:

  1. Stores salts, minerals, pigments, lipids, and proteins.
  2. Filled with protons that help in maintaining an acidic environment.

ii) Endocytosis and Exocytosis:

  1. Takes substances in vacuole by endocytosis and excreted through exocytosis.
  2. Lysosomes are vesicles involved in the digestion of food.

iii) Turgor pressure:

  1. Provides shape to the cell.
  2. It helps to withstand extreme conditions.
