Write the IUPAC name of the compound (A) which is a 2methyl branched alkane having a molecular mass of 254. This compound is a sex-attractant and is isolated from female tiger moths.

Given -2-methyl branched alkane
Molar Mass =254

As it is alkane, So according to General formula it should be

CnH2n+2

12n+1(2n+2)=254

12n+2n+2=254

14n=252n=18

So the structural formula of compound is C18H38

But since it is mentioned that 1 methyl group is in branch at 2 position of carbon chain the longest chain consist of 17C-atom.
