Question

Write the mathematical form of Newton's second law of motion. State condition if any.

Open in App
Solution

Newton's second law states that force is equal to the rate of change of momentum or the acceleration of an object depending upon two variables – the net force acting on the object and the mass of the object.

The mathematical form of Newton's second law of motion is

F=ΔPΔt

where F = Net external force acting on the body
ΔP = Change in momentum
Δt = Time

This can also be written as

F=m×a

Conditions

  1. The speed of the object doesn't approach the speed of light.
  2. The mass of the object must be constant
