Solution

Vegetative propagation is a type of asexual reproduction in which new plants are produced from vegetative parts of plants like roots, stems, leaves, and buds.

Grafting:

  1. This method is used to develop new and better varieties by a combination of two plants.
  2. The stem (scion) of one plant is strongly attached to the rooted stem (stock) of another plant.
  3. The joint is coated with wax to prevent drying and infection of the stem.
  4. After a few days, new cells develop, joining the scion and stock together.
  5. This method is used to get desired varieties of mango and rose etc.

Grafting of rose:

  1. Scion is selected- A young scion is selected, it is better to choose a stem from which the bloom has just faded.
  2. Choose the rootstock, that should be hard and healthy.
  3. The chosen plant should be properly watered, as roses require plenty of water.
  4. Using a sterilized knife, cut a T into the rootstock.
  5. Cut the scion and immediately insert it into the rootstock.
  6. Secure the graft with the grafting tape.
  7. Provide plenty of water to the plant.
  8. When the tape is removed on its own, then the grafting is done properly.
