Blood sugar level

Open in App
Solution

Hormone :

Insulin and glucagon.

  1. Your pancreas produces and releases both hormones: alpha cells produce and release glucagon, and beta cells produce and release insulin.
  2. The distinction is in how these hormones help to regulate blood sugar. Insulin lowers blood sugar levels, whereas glucagon raises blood sugar levels.

Source:

Alpha and beta cells of islets of Langerhans (Pancreas)

  1. Beta and alpha cells, the two most common and visible endocrine cell types, are critical for maintaining blood glucose homeostasis.
  2. The alpha cell generates glucagon, which raises blood glucose whereas the beta cell produces insulin, the body's only blood glucose-lowering hormone.
