Places from which the equator passes
Why does it snow in these equatorial places?
Solution:
Among Europe, North America, and South America, the Equator passes through Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil from South America.
The Andes mountain range runs in a north-south direction along the western coast of South America. A section of the Andes in Ecuador and Colombia crosses the equator and still experiences snowfall.
The peaks like Mt Chimborazo (6,267 m) in Ecuador and Pico Bolivar (5,007 m) in Venezuela experience snowfall because of their elevation. Hence, despite being in the equatorial region, their elevation makes the weather conditions favourable for snowfall.
