Solution

  • A pale blue ppt. develops when Ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) is added drop by drop to a copper sulphate solution, which dissolves in excess of NH4OHto create a deep blue or inky blue solution, i.e. Tetraamminecopper(II) sulphate.
  • Chemical equation:

CuSO4(s)+2NH4OH(l)Cu(OH)2(s)+NH42SO4(s)Cu(OH)2(s)+NH42SO4(s)+2NH4OH(l)CuNH34SO4(s)+4H2O(l)Deepblue
