Write the preparation of bleaching powder and mention its uses.

CaOCl2 is the chemical formula of calcium oxychloride which is commonly known as bleaching powder. It is prepared by the reaction of chlorine gas with calcium hydroxide (slaked lime). The reaction involved is given below.
Ca(OH)2(aq)+Cl2(g)→CaOCl2(aq)+H2O(l)

Following are uses of bleaching powder:
- Used for disinfecting water
- Used for bleaching of cloth
- Used for disinfecting the road side and garbage sites
