Preparation of Ethyne from 1,2 -dibromo ethane.
The chemical formula for 1,2 - dibromo ethane is ${CH}_{2} Br - {CH}_{2} Br$ .
When 1,2 dibromo ethane ( ${CH}_{2} Br - {CH}_{2} Br$ ) is boiled with alcoholic Potassium hydroxide ( $KOH$ ) it produces Ethyne ( $CH \equiv CH$ ).
The chemical reaction is as follows.
