  2. Examples of neutral oxides: Water (H2O), Carbon mono-oxide (CO), Nitric oxide (NO)
  3. Characteristics of neutral oxides:
  • Neutral oxides are generally formed by the reaction of Oxygen (O) with non-metals like Carbon (C), Nitrogen (N).
  • Neutral oxides neither react with an acid nor with a base.
  • They do not form salt on reaction with an acid or a base.
  • Carbon mono-oxide is slightly soluble in water whereas Nitric oxide is soluble in water to a great extent.
