Question

Write the relationship between velocity, wavelength and frequency of a wave.

Open in App
Solution

Velocity, frequency and wave-length of a wave:

  1. Frequency is the number of waves passing through a fixed point at unit time.
  2. Velocity of a wave is the speed with which it travels in a medium.
  3. Wavelength is the distance between the particles oscillating at the same phase in a wave-form.
  4. The relationship between all the above is given by:

v=f×λ

here, v=velocityf=frequencyλ=wavelength

Thus, the relationship between velocity, time period and wavelength is given by v=f×λ.
