Question

Write the relationship between velocity, wavelength and time period of a wave.

Open in App
Solution

Velocity, time period and wave-length of a wave:

  1. Velocity of a wave is the speed with which it travels in a medium.
  2. Time period is the time taken by a particle oscillating to complete one full cycle of a wave.
  3. Wavelength is the distance between the particles oscillating at the same phase in a wave-form.
  4. The relationship between all the above is given by:

v=1T×λ

here, v=velocityT=timeperiodλ=wavelength

Thus, the relationship between velocity, time period and wavelength is given by v=1T×λ.
