Nasal cavity

The nasal cavity refers to the space present inside the nose. It is divided into two nasal passages. During breathing, air taken up by the nose passes through the nasal passages of the nasal cavity.

Cilia and mucus of nasal cavity

  • Cilia are hair-like projections or structures present in the lining of the nasal cavity which helps in preventing the entry of harmful substances into the nose.
  • Mucus is a slippery aqueous solution secreted by the goblet cells of mucus glands present in the nasal cavity and is found lining the nasal cavity.

The role of cilia and mucus in the nasal cavity is to prevent the entry of harmful substances like germs, dust, etc., and to protect the nasal cavity.
