Solution
Digestion is the process of break down of complex food substances into simpler and soluble substances.
The role of the mouth and stomach in digestion are as follows:
Mouth: Digestion begins in the mouth where starch present in the food gets digested into simpler sugars by the action of saliva released from the salivary glands.
Stomach: Secretes gastric juices which are acidic in nature due to the presence of HCl.
Gastric juice also helps in breaking down the proteins into amino acids in the acidic medium provided by HCl.
