Sebaceous glands

  1. The oil-secreting tissue in mammalian skin is called sebaceous glands.
  2. The sebaceous glands secrete their oil into ducts before reaching the surface of the skin, hence called exocrine glands.
  3. During late embryogenesis to early life, the sebaceous gland is formed.
  4. The main function of the fatty sebaceous gland is to lubricate the skin, which prevents the loss of moisture.

sudoriferous glands

  1. A gland that is responsible for producing perspiration, or sweat is called the sudoriferous gland.
  2. The average person has about 2 to 4 million of these glands located in the dermis throughout the body.
  3. Each gland has a coiled portion situated beneath the skin that produces sweat.
