Solution

Step 1; Find the smallest and the greatest (a) whole numbers (b) natural numbers.

Step 2; Find the smallest and greatest whole number.

Whole numbers are 0,1,2,3,4,5,........

Since, the whole number starts from 0, so the smallest whole number is 0

Since, the whole number goes up to infinity ,so the greatest whole number cannot be determined.

Step 3; Find the smallest and greatest whole number.

Natural numbers are 1,2,3,4,.........

Since, the natural number starts from 1, so the smallest natural number is 1

Since, the natural number goes up to infinity ,so we can not get the greatest natural number.

Hence,(a) The smallest whole number is 0 and the greatest whole number cannot be determined.(b) The smallest natural number is 1 and the greatest natural number cannot be determined.
