Characteristics of the heart are :

1. It is a muscular organ.

2. It pumps blood all across the body through blood vessels.

3. It has chambers and is divided into two halves (right heart and left heart)

4. The right and the left heart is divided by the septum.

5. The atrium and ventricles are divided by valves.

6. It is placed in the thoracic cavity between the lungs.

7. Right heart receives deoxygenated blood whereas left heart releases oxygenated blood.

8. The main vein is Vena Cava and the main artery is the Aorta.

9. It undergoes contractions and relaxations alternatively and continuously.
