Solution
The magnetic Lorentz force is given as
F=q(→v×→B)
The special features of the force are-
The magnetic field depends upon the charge of the particle, the velocity of the particle and the magnetic field in which it is placed. The magnitude of the force is calculated by including the cross product of velocity and the magnetic field. The resultant force is thus perpendicular to the direction of the velocity and the magnetic field, the direction of the magnetic field is predicted by the right hand thumb rule. In the case of static charges, the total magnetic force is zero.
The force F on the charge is zero, if the charge is at rest, that is, the moving charges alone are affected by the magnetic field. Also the force is zero if the direction of motion of the charge is either parallel or anti-parallel to the field and the force is maximum, when the charge moves perpendicular to the field.
