Write the steps involved in writing the formula of a compound.
Part 1: Chemical Formula
A chemical formula is a representation of a substance's molecule's composition in terms of the symbols representing the components that make up the molecule.
Part 2: The steps involved in writing the chemical formula of a compound are as follows -
Step 1 - Write the symbols of the elements present in the compound.
Step 2- Write the valencies of the constituent elements below them.
Step 3 - Cross over or swap the valencies of these elements and write them with the elements as subscripts.
Step 4 - If the valency can be simplified, divide both the valencies with the smallest valency of the element.
Step 5-- Then write the formula of a compound.
