Question

Write the steps of constructing a perpendicular to a given line from a point outside it.

Open in App
Solution

STEPS:
  1. Draw a line segment AB and take any point P outside it.
  2. Select a suitable radius such that when centred at P, the arc so drawn cuts AB in two distinct points, say X and Y.
  3. Select an appropriate radius and taking X as center, draw an arc on the opposite side of P.
  4. With the radius unchanged and centre at Y, draw another arc to cut the previous arc at M
  5. Join PM, which is the required perpendicular.
