Solution

Solution: A solution is a mixture of two or more components that is homogenous in nature. It is made up of two components: a solute and a solvent.

Solvent: A solvent is a substance that dissolves the solute and is present in a larger quantity.

Solute: A solute is a substance that is dissolved in a solvent and is present in a smaller quantity.

Filtrate: The substance that passes through the filter and is collected in a container.

Residue: It is a substance that remains insoluble on the upper part of the filter.

Steps for making tea:

  • Add a cup of milk to the vessel and heat it, which acts as a solvent.
  • The tea powder or tea leaves act as a solute added to the boiling milk and continue heating.
  • The solute here tea powder or tea leaves remains insoluble in the milk, which can be seen when it is still boiling.
  • After this, add some sugar to the boiling solution which is also a solute but soluble in milk solution.
  • With continuous stirring, the sugar will dissolve completely in the solution and attain saturation.
  • When the raw smell of tea leaves is no more it indicates the solution has reached its boiling point, remove it from heat and strain it using a strainer.
  • The insoluble tea powder that is left in the strainer is the residue and the solution (essenced milk and sugar) that passes through the filter is called filtrate which is collected in a container.
