IUPAC Names: 1propanol 2propanol Methoxy ethane
Uses of phenol: (1) Phenol is used as an antiseptic for surgical instruments, as an oral analgesic, in the production of drugs, in cosmetics and to embalm bodies.
(2) Phenol formaldehyde adhesives are generally hot press adhesives used extensively in the manufacture of plywood and other wood products such as flakeboard, oriented strand board etc.
(a) When glucose is treated with bromine water, gluconic acid is formed.
(b) When glucose is treated with dilute nitric acid, glucaric acid is formed.
(c) When glucose is treated with hydrogen cyanide (HCN), glucose cyanohydrin is formed
