Write the uses of Ethane.

Ethane (C2H6) is the simplest hydrocarbon containing the C-Csingle bond. It finds various applications in industries for manufacturing complex compounds. Some of its applications are:

  1. It is a good source of fuel.
  2. It is used to prepare ethene (C2H4) which is used as a feedstock for plastics. Ethene is also used to prepare ethanol (C2H5OH) and ethanoic acid (CH3COOH)
  3. It is also used in the preparation of Ethyl chloride (C2H5Cl) which is needed for the manufacturing of tetraethyllead (C8H20Pb) used as an antiknock agent in gasoline and jet fuels.
