Germanium$\left(\mathrm{Ge}\right)$ is had greyish-white-colored metalloid. Its chemical properties are similar to Tin and Silicon. Silicon$\left(\mathrm{Si}\right)$ is the second most abundant element found in the earth's crust in a combined state.

Uses of Silicon -

1. Silicon is used in making silicones, a silicon-based polymer. Silicones have major use in making cookware, jackets, lubricants, and adhesives due to their non-stick and heat-resistant nature.
2. Silicon also plays an important role in making solar panels used for converting solar energy into electrical energy.
3. Silicon-based chips are used in computers.

Uses of Germanium -

1. It is a semiconductor used in making integrated chips and transistors.
2. Germanium is one of the good alloying agents.
3. It is used in thermal imaging cameras, infrared spectroscopes, and infrared detectors.
