Methane (CH4) is commonly found in nature in swamps, marshes, and muddy sediments of lakes.

It is one of the most common organic compounds found in nature and has the following uses:

  1. It is used as fuel as it produces a great environmental benefit by producing more heat and light energy by mass as compared to fossil fuel.
  2. It is used as the source of hydrogen during the manufacture of Ammonia (NH3).
  3. It is used in the preparation of Carbon black which is used as printing ink and also in manufacturing tires.
