Two insects beneficial to man are:
1. Mulberry Silkworm (Bombyx mori )
2. Honeybee (Apis indica)
Importance of Mulberry Silkworm:
Mulberry silk is produced from this Silkworm which accounts for about 91.7% of the total silk produced in India.
•Raw silk threads are used in the manufacture of kurtas, saree, and many other garments.
• The remaining part of the cocoon is used in the preparation of a special kind of cloth called matka.
• A substance known as "gut" is being produced from the intestine of the silkworm which is used in surgical works.
Importance of Honeybee:
Bee culture is known as Apiculture. Various products are obtained from honeybees -
•Honey- It is used along with various ayurvedic medicines and is a good blood purifier too. It is used for curing ulcers on the tongue and in the alimentary canal. It is also used in cake bread and biscuits and many cosmetic products too.
•Beeswax- It is used in manufacturing face cream, paints, polishes and many lubricants.
•Bee Venom- It is used in the treatment of snake bite.
