Open in App
Solution

Three main characteristics of a true solution are:

  • A true solution is a homogeneous mixture in which the diameter of particles of solute is <10-9m (lesser than 10-9m).
  • The particles of the true solutions are so small that they are not visible to the naked eyes.
  • Due to the small size of particles, they cannot scatter a beam of light passing through it making them incapable to show the Tyndall effect.
  • The particles of a true solution can easily pass through the filter paper.
  • In true solutions, the solute particles do not settle down under gravity and hence, are stable in nature.
  • Examples: Salt solution, sugar solution, etc.
