Question

Write three significance of Henderson Hasselbalch equation?

Open in App
Solution

Henderson's equation for acid buffer solution:
pH=pKa+log[salt][acid]
Henderson's equation for basic buffer solution:
pH=pKalog[salt][base]
The significance of Henderson equation:
1) Henderson's equation can be used to calculate the pH of buffer solution.
2) Henderson's equation can be used to calculate the ratio [salt][acid] in which acid and salt must be mixed to get a buffer solution of desired pH value.
3) When pH and total concentration of buffer is given, the concentration of acid and salt ( or base and salt) can be calculated.
