Solution

We add organic matter to the soil when the soil is basic.
Organic matter releases acids into the soil. The bases which are present in the soil get neutralized.
Hence we add organic matter into the soil so that plants will grow well.
Active organic matter provides habitat and food for beneficial soil organisms that help build soil structure and porosity, provide nutrients to plants, and improve the water-holding capacity of the soil.
