Write two applications of each of the following in day-to-day life: Convection

Open in App
Solution

Convection: The mode of transfer of heat in a liquid or gas by the actual movement of the molecules from hotter objects to colder objects.

Example of convection:

  1. Winds are convection currents of air. When the earth's surface is heated by the sun the air which is in contact with the surface gets hot and rises in the atmosphere. As a result, a low-pressure area is created. The colder air from the surrounding rushes to the low-pressure area which causes winds to blow.
  2. Ventilation is kept near the window as hot air rise up and cold air descends downwards.
