Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart except pulmonary artery.Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart except pulmonary veins.
The walls of the arteries are thick and elastic.The walls of the veins are thin and less elastic.
In arteries the blood flows under high pressure.In veins the blood flows under low pressure.
Arteries do not have valves.
Veins have valves to prevent backward flow of blood.
